Heavily inspired by Brazilian regional culture, the artists take turns performing acrobatic stunts, balancing acts and capoeira, to the sound of live samba and baião. Most of the sequences are executed in perfectly synchronized pairs, and the set consists of nothing but a Chinese pole and the ropes that support it.
According to the group, “maiador” is the name given in Bahia’s region of Recôncavo to the shade where the cattle rests in the pasture. It is this atmosphere of shelter and refuge that drives the performance.
“The image of the maiador doesn’t appear explicitly. The environment is created as the scenes unfold, when a song is played, when the characters meet,” says cast member Diana Bloch, who also highlights audience participation, as the public is invited to sing the chorus of the songs along with the artists.
