The ship is wrecked, but the show must go on. Tracing a parallel between the itinerant nature of old buccaneer ships and that of circuses, the show leads the crew and the audience through imaginary seas, with no set destination.
In some acts, the artists themselves support the equipments – such as the lyra and the tightrope – so that others can perform their acrobatics, full of lightness, precision and courage. This technique is known in Brazil as autoportagem (self-supporting). In the background, the captain of the ship leads a band, which plays the violin, accordion, piano and drums.
A wooden door rotates in a 360 degrees axis and allows the audience to follow the backstage of the crew’s history. While one writes letters, another tears them up, and a group passes the time in a party. Together, they try to find out what is the mysterious object that the captain hides like a treasure.
Created in 2012, Circo Zoé brings together circus artists from different backgrounds, two musicians and one technical inventor. Naufragata premiered in 2014 in Italy, toured around Europe and is being presented for the first time in Brazil.
