This intervention performed by five acrobats from Kenya is a celebration of African culture. The act has references to the artists’ country of origin, explains Marion Op het Veld, the general director of the company. “The acrobatic style is typically Kenyan: the jumps and human pyramids are always executed at a very fast pace,” she says. The director also points out, however, that the piece brings elements of the African continent as a whole.
One of the highlights is limbo, a dance in which a person must walk under a stick without touching it. Fire stunts and aerial ring acts complete the performance, whose soundtrack brings the sound of the Congolese rumba, also known as lingala, named after the Bantu language spoken in northwestern Congo.
The Sarakasi Warrior Acrobats are part of the Sarakasi Trust, a company established 18 years ago in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
