Magic is a mixture of wonder and poetry. It happens in the mind of each spectator, opening a new dimension, an extensive universe where the impossible can happen. Magic as we know today dates back to the nineteenth century and is constantly reinventing itself. Objects come to life and are transformed. Visions materialize, appear out of thin air. Such are the scenes featured in Cabaré Mágico, which will bring together six magicians.
The presence of two international guests emphasizes the value of female performers in a mostly male field. Alana Möhlmann is the first female German Champion of Magic. Her work gives new meaning to elements that are typical of women’s universe. Peruvian magician Gisell combines tradition and contemporaneity through card manipulation and Chinese rings, both classic components of the magic repertoire.
The other artists are Brazilian. Two-time Latin American Champion of Magic, Caio Ferreira blends poetry and agility in object manipulation. Rapha Santacruz uses the fife, a type of flute popular in the Brazilian Northeast, in a musical script about the clay craftsmen of Caruaru (a city in Pernambuco state). Célio Amino, whose career spans 30 years, uses elements of Japanese kabuki theater to enact his acts of theatrical magic.
