Three unlikely soldiers are summoned for an important mission: to invade an enemy territory and rescue their superior officer. One of them is cocky. The other one is a messy glutton and the third one is a forger who wants to defect even before the battle begins. After training in forests, mined fields and imaginary rapids, they try at all costs to evade the task.

The journey is full of situations that make it clear the characters are neither courageous nor good strategists. At one point the soldiers come across a skull, in a dark stage, illuminated only by gas lamps. This triggers a dialogue that plays on their ignorance and reveals the authoritarianism in the group. “The idea is to provide a scenic play for the clowns with buffoonery, physical rigor and a pathetic content,” says Fernando Sampaio, co-founder of the company.

Founded in 1997 by Sampaio and Domingos Montagner (1962-2016), LaMínima has performed 14 shows and won many prizes, including the Shell award. Ordinary is inspired by the company’s experience with the NGO Clowns Without Borders, which is active in conflict regions.
