Lions, vodka and a shoe size 23 is a fictional reading of the tragedy that occurred at Circo Vostok in Pernambuco state, in April of 2000. On that Sunday a boy from the audience was attacked and eaten by Bongo, one of the five lions kept by the circus. Four of the animals were killed by the police. That was the end of Vostok.

The show chronicles the daily struggle to survive of four miserable artists, haunted by the ghosts of the lions. They deal with existential questions of the human condition, such as freedom, hunger and death, explains Jonas di Paula, who is part of the cast. “We have created an implicit parallel with the tragedies of our country, which are always forgotten.”

The characters are shown as the Middle Ages miserable buffoons. They use clowning techniques (such as faking a fall to make the audience laugh), as well as acrobatic stunts and musical vignettes to create a tragicomic narrative.

The show celebrates the thirteenth birthday of Cia de 2, who invited artists from La Cascata Cia Cômica to bring together their circus, theater and music research.
