We often encounter people who trouble and bother us. But this kind of relationship can become a learning experience of self-improvement and respect, as we realize the importance of other people in our lives. This is the theme of the children’s show Pedra no Sapato (Stone in the Shoe).

In the performance, Suspiro (“Sigh”, in Portuguese) is a clown performer who wants to be the focus of attention, but is constantly interrupted by Burbuja (“Bubble” in Portuguese), the playful clown who cleans the theater. Using two classic types, the “white clown” (a powerful aristocrat, such as Suspiro) and the “auguste” (an extravagant, provocative figure, like Burbuja), the artists create a link between the characters, who enact the contrast between order and misfit through acrobatic, magic and comedy acts.

On the stage a giant sock turns into clothes on a clothesline, garbage bags become juggling clubs, and the apparent conflict dissolves into complicity, empathy and affection.
